Team NY Harlem brings New York City Playground flavour to the World Tour

9 Jul 2015

NEW YORK (2015 FIBA 3x3 World Tour) – Team NY Harlem stamped their ticket to the 2015 FIBA 3x3 World Tour Mexico DF Masters following their success at the Battle of the Boroughs 3x3 Quest on the famous playground of Dyckman Park on 4 July 2015.

For the last two years, Staten Island had reigned supreme on 3x3 basketball in the City that never sleeps. With their star player Zaire Taylor gone missing however, the champs were stunned in the semi-finals by a team from Harlem… premonitorily called "Team Champs".

NY Harlem features speedy guards Dominique Jones aka "Disco Domo" – a fine ball-handler who recently joined the Harlem Globe Trotters – and "Super Dave" aka David Seagers. Unlike previous New York teams, Harlem will have some size inside with Edis Dervisevic standing at 2.04m (and which we’ve already planned to call the "Whirling Dervish").

Team NY Staten will take solace in having one of their players team up with NY Harlem at the World Tour, in Mexico on 9-10 September 2015. With one of their players unavailable, the winners recruited the versatile Kevin Josey to bring some physicality to the team.

While most players have a strong basketball background playing in college (Dervisevic played in the NCAA March Madness with Long Beach State) and pro overseas, the team will bring some typical New York City playground flavour to the World Tour.

The recipe has worked in the past. Back in 2013, Team NY Staten made a splash at the FIBA 3x3 World Tour, winning the San Juan Masters therefore reaching the World Tour Final in Istanbul, Turkey.

Team NY Harlem will not be the only team coming out of New York at the Mexico DF Masters with NY Queens clinching their spot after winning the Big East 3x3 Battle back in March.
