Italy stay perfect on Day 3 at FIBA 3x3 U18 World Championships

3 Jun 2016

ASTANA (2016 FIBA 3x3 U18 World Championships) - Four teams jumped to a perfect 4-0 record after Day 3 at the 2016 FIBA 3x3 U18 World Championships in Astana, Kazakhstan on 3 June. Nadine Selaawi got buckets, Italy stayed perfect and Czech Republic and Israel offered the best thriller since The Shawshank Redemption. Here's our wrap-up.

Team of the Day: Italy (men)

Italy continued their perfect run in Astana with back-to-back wins against Romania (21-7) and Indonesia (22-9). The lightest player in the tournament Flavio Gay once again turned heads against Romania (8pts), Andrea Mezzanotte made his best Dikembe Mutombo impressions against Indonesia and Emanuele Giorgi nearly had the poster dunk of the tournament. They're up against Georgia in the quarter-finals on Sunday.

More 4-0 clean records: Argentina (men); Hungary, New Zealand (women)

Game of the Day: Israel - Czech Republic (women) 15-16 (OT)

The most dramatic finish so far in the tournament. With both teams facing elimination, the game went to overtime after a decisive hustle play from Lior Halevi. However ocial media rising star Sara Krumpholcova had the last word for the free-throw line.

Player of the Day: Nadine Selaawi (Egypt)

Sad to think this is the last we've seen of the silky smooth Selaawi. The Cairo native was absolutely unstoppable on Friday, scoring 25 points in two games against Turkey and Guatemala. She connected from behind the arc, hopped to the hoop and nearly had the play of the day when she went behind the back on an impossible drive to the  basket. She now has an 11-point lead in the scoring charts. Enough to remain the scoring champ until the end of the competition?

Stat of the Day: Faris Sadikovic (12 pts for Qatar vs Kazakhstan)

The number four 3x3 player in the world in the U18 category caught fire in the last game of the day against the hosts. The playmaker silenced the crowd with five bombs from behind the arc and a couple of creative drives. His 12 points equaled his total from his 3 previous games all together.

Individual Contest: Dunk Contest

They qualified for the final (Sunday 5 June): Krisztofer Durazi (Hungary), Zaccharie
Mortant (Belgium), Urban Oman (Slovenia), Alberto Perez (Spain)
