Team Al Gharrafa win Doha Challenger, grab World Tour spot

DOHA (FIBA 3x3 World Tour) – Newcomers Team Al Gharrafa defeated 3x3 powerhouse Team Doha in the final of the Doha Challenger on 31 March 2016. Both teams won a trip to the FIBA 3x3 World Tour Utsunomiya Masters (30-31 July).

The explosive Kevin Galloway had a game-high 12 points and former Real Madrid big man Jeremiah Massey added 6 in the final.

"It was a tough game and a great tournament with lots of good teams," said Massey.

The World Tour is a big deal for us. - Massey

"It was actually my first time playing 3x3. I know there will be more good teams but we always want to win."

3x3 star Dominic James had 10 points in the losing effort for Doha and already has his eyes set on the World Tour.

"It is a great opportunity and of course an honour to once again represent Doha in the World Tour," the athletic playmaker said.

"Last year we lost early in the competition so we are looking forward to going back and redeeming ourselves." - James

The Doha Challenger - organised by Qatar Basketball Federation - featured 16 international teams, including Ljubljana, who once again lost against Team Doha (in the semi-finals), adding one page to the Ljubljana-Doha rivalry.

The 2013 FIBA 3x3 World Tour winners and the other 13 teams will need to continue travelling the world for the next qualifier to make it to the World Tour this season.
