Zemun win Nanjing 3x3 Challenger

NANJING (FIBA 3x3 Challenger) - Zemun (SRB) won the Nanjing 3x3 Challenger after beating reigning World Tour champions Ljubljana (SLO) 21-16 in the final on 29-30 April 2017.

The team ranked 8th in the FIBA 3x3 Team Ranking at the start of the season went undefeated in the former Chinese capital and was led by tournament MVP Nikola Vukovic.

With this win, Zemun earned 10,000 USD and a ticket to the FIBA 3x3 World Tour Utsunomiya Masters, which will be staged on 29-30 July.

Since Ljubljana had already secured their berth to the Utsunomya Masters, third place Ulaanbaatar (MGL) will also make the trip to Japan, becoming the first-ever team from Mongolia to compete at the FIBA 3x3 World Tour.

His Krakow R8 Basket (POL) team lost in the quarter-finals but Michael Hicks caught fire in Nanjing, leading all scorers with 45 points in just 4 games.

The number four 3x3 player in the World Jasmin Hercegovac (Ljubljana) and 3x3 newcomer Steve Sir (Saskatoon) were tied in second place with 44 points.

The number one 3x3 team in the World Novi Sad Al Wahda (UAE) only finished 6th in Nanjing and lost Marko Savic to a minor ankle injury but their star player Dusan Domovic Bulut still managed to make an impression in China.

The next FIBA 3x3 Challenger will be held in Penang, Malaysia on 13-14 May. The two winners will join Zemun, Ljubljana and Ulaanbaatar at the Utsunomiya Masters.
