Cote d’Ivoire, Nigeria in big comeback for FIBA 3x3 Africa Cup 2018 Final Round

COTONOU (FIBA 3x3 Africa Cup 2018 ) – Cote d’Ivoire and Nigeria made a spirited comeback on day 2 of the FIBA 3x3 Africa Cup 2018 Benin Qualifier held in Cotonou to secure tickets for their men and women's teams ahead of the Final Round of the Africa Cup which will take place from November 9-11 in Lomé, Togo.

Cote d’ Ivoire men's team finished top of Pool A with 3 wins from 4 games having shaken off their loss to Ghana (9-18). They are followed by Mauritania who also recorded 3 wins in 4 games and Mali who recorded a 2-2 mark.

From Pool B, Nigeria had to brush off their loss to Cape Verde 15-17 on the opening day to make a strong comeback and reclaimed the top spot winning 4 out of their 5 games.

Hard fighting hosts Benin gave their fans plenty to cheer as they punched a ticket to Lomé ahead of Cape Verde who also had 4 wins in 5 games.

The seventh qualification spot was picked by Burkina Faso in a game that saw them defeat Gambia 18-10.

In the women’s category Mali finished on top of Pool A as result of their 4-0 record. They are followed by  Cote d’Ivoire who claimed a 3-1 record, and Benin and Ghana who recorded 2 and 1 win respectively.

The Pool B saw Nigeria in commanding position winning 4 games out of 4, while Burkina Faso, Cape Verde and Niger make up the other three teams to qualify for the FIBA 3x3 Africa Cup 2018.

 

As host nation, Togo has already qualified in both categories.

Nigeria and Mali walked away with gold in the men and women's category at the inaugural edition of the FIBA 3x3 Africa Cup at the same venue last year.
