Hosts Uganda book semi-finals spots on Day 2 at FIBA 3x3 U18 Africa Cup 2019

KAMPALA (Uganda) - Hosts Uganda used the home-court advantage to book a spot in the semi-finals in both the men and women's categories of the FIBA 3x3 U18 Africa Cup 2019 on November 9, 2019.

In the men's category, Fayeed Bale's quick moves led Uganda to victory over Burundi (13-8) and Niger (21-13) and sent his country to the semi-finals of the first-ever FIBA 3x3 U18 Africa Cup as second in Pool B. Nigeria - who finished pool play undefeated - top Pool A and will face either Egypt or Mali in the semi-finals. In their match-up today, Egypt was better than Mali (13-9) thanks to another impressive performance from Youssef Helmy, who leads all scorers in points per game in Kampala.

In the women's category, hosts Uganda seemed unstoppable today. They had a perfect 3-0 record and  Fildauce Namulema and Maria Najjuma are first and third in the scoring charts respectively (21 and 20 pts). The Democratic Republic of the Congo - who only lost to Uganda (13-15) - will fight for the medals after finishing 2nd in Pool B. Their star player Ketia Mbelu finished pool play as the joint top scorer with Uganda's Namulema).


In women's Pool A, Nigeria knocked Egypt out of the competition with a big 15-8 win. Mali dominated the pool with a taintless 3-0 record.
