Riga Ghetto and Liman shine in iconic location on Day 1 at FIBA 3x3 World Tour Jeddah Masters

JEDDAH (Saudi Arabia) - Top seeds Riga Ghetto and Liman finished Day 1 of FIBA 3x3 World Tour Jeddah Masters undefeated on October 18. 2019.

The fight for second place in the team ranking got even closer. Riga Ghetto (LAT) and Liman (SRB) lived up to their reputation by dominating pool play at the Jeddah Masters. The Serbs finished both games in Pool B before the limit against Cheon An Musso (KOR) and Utsunomiya (JPN). The Japanese squad, who need to make it to the final to reach the World Tour Final advanced to the quarter-finals after defeating the South Korean squad. 

In Pool A, Riga Ghetto, who are missing their superstar Karlis Lasmanis due to injury, also had a perfect start against Balanga Chooks (PHI) and Lyon (FRA). The French team advanced to the quarter-finals after Hervé Touré and Raphael Wilson scored 7 points apiece in a 18-14 against Balanga Chooks.

 

Piran (SLO) also showed no mercy to local favourites Jeddah (KSA) and Tokyo Dime  (JPN), who came all the way from the qualifying draw. In a do-or-die game, the hosts did not disappoint and defeated Tokyo Dime (21-17) to stamp their ticket to the quarter-finals and get one step closer to the World Tour Utsunomiya Final. Captain Khalid Abdel-Gabar shined in that game with a team-high 8 points.

Last but not least, World Tour Montreal Masters winners Sakiai Gulbele topped pool D and Ulaanbaatar MCC Energy won the Mongolian fight for the quarter-finals defeating Taikhar on a Tsenguunbayar Gotov Tissot Buzzer Beater in overtime.

Jeddah, Utsunomiya and Ulaanbaatar MCC Energy are the 3 teams playing in Jeddah who still have a chance to win the last 2 tickets to the FIBA 3x3 World Tour Final in Japan on November 2-3, 2019. Riga Ghetto, Sakiai Gulbele, Liman and Piran have already qualified.

The absolutely scenic venue, located on the Jeddah Waterfront, was packed the whole day by fans who came to enjoy 3x3 and support Team Jeddah.
