CONSTANTA (Romania) - The final of the fourth edition of the FIBA 3x3 Nations League and of the third edition of the FIBA 3x3 Women’s Series will be held in Constanta, Romania on September 14-18, 2022.
The announcement comes just three months after the organization of the FIBA 3x3 U23 World Cup was awarded to the Romanian Basketball Federation, with the collaboration of their partner Sport Arena.
"We are excited to bring more elite international 3x3 events to Romania," Romanian Basketball Federation President Carmen Tocala said. "After the success of last year’s finals, it was a priority for us to bring back the FIBA 3x3 Nations League and the FIBA 3x3 Women’s Series. It shows our commitment to grow 3x3 from the youth categories and our priority for women’s 3x3, in line with one of FIBA’s three strategic pillars: the development of women in basketball."
"Constanta is already a traditional destination for 3x3 basketball, organizing national tournaments as well as FIBA 3x3 Europe Cup Qualifiers in the past years and the local authorities together with the local basketball association are investing a lot in 3x3 and youth development," Tocala added.
In 2021, the final of both competitions took place in the iconic Palace of the Parliament in Bucharest. This year, the event will expand from three to five days (the first three dedicated to the Nations League, the last two to the Women’s Series).
The FIBA 3x3 Nations League, which was launched in 2017 as a development program for men and women under the age of 23 to develop their skills in preparation for the open category, will grow from 5 to 11 conferences this season. A total of 110 teams from 38 different national federations have already confirmed their participation. The final will be the culmination of 67 different events, which will take place during the year. For the first time in 2022, the final will bring together 12 men’s and 12 women’s teams.
Created in 2019, the FIBA 3x3 Women’s Series is the number one event on the 3x3 women’s professional circuit. The season calendar and record prize money will be announced later this month.
