New Zealand teams dominate Day 1 of FIBA 3x3 World Cup Qualifier Asia 2022

DOHA (Qatar) - Both New Zealand teams impressed on the first day of the FIBA 3x3 World Cup Qualifier Asia 2022 in Doha, on March 25, 2022.

In the women's category, the 3x3 Tall Ferns dominated Pool A, defeating Qatar in the opening game 21-15 and then Kazakhstan 21-9. Sharpshooter Tiarna Clarke caught fire like Emilia with 10 points in the opener and a team-high 17 on the day. New Zealand will face Kazakshtan for a place in tomorrow's final. 

 
In Pool B, it was Iran who finished on top and will play Uzbekistan tomorrow for a place in the final. 

Sri Lanka and Qatar were eliminated after the pool stage. 

In the men's category, the 3x3 Tall Blacks topped Pool A thanks to two victories over Qatar (21-15) and Kazakhstan (21-9).  Nikau McCullough led the Tall Blacks with 17 points and finished as top scorer of Day 1. On his much-anticipated return to 3x3, Tai Wynyard delivered a few highlights.

 
In Pool B, Iran and Malaysia advanced to the knock-out stage.

Iran will play Qatar and New Zealand will play Malaysia in tomorrow's knock-out rounds. 

The winners of each category will qualify for the FIBA 3x3 World Cup 2022 in Antwerp on June 21-26.
