Pools announced for FIBA 3x3 Africa Cup and U17 Africa Cup in Cairo

CAIRO (Egypt) - The continent's best teams will fight for the prizes in Egypt's historic capital of Cairo as the pools have been revealed for the FIBA 3x3 Africa Cup and FIBA 3x3 U17 Africa Cup later in the year. 

The fifth edition of the Africa Cup will be held on December 1-3 while the third edition of the FIBA 3x3 U17 Africa Cup will be on November 30. 

Madagascar (men's) and Egypt (women's) are the reigning Africa Cup champions, while Egypt are the title holders in both genders at the U17 Africa Cup.

 

In the Africa Cup, the pool winners will qualify directly to the semi-finals while the 2nd and 3rd placed teams will compete in play-in matches for places in the final four.

In the U17 Africa Cup, the top two teams in each pool will advance to the semi-finals.

 

The pools of both tournaments were determined through the 3x3 Federation Rankings as of July 1, 2023. 

In the Africa Cup, host Egypt headline Pool A in the men's while defending champs Madagascar will start their title defence in Pool B. 

Africa Cup Men's

Pool A: Egypt, Algeria, Uganda, Senegal, Nigeria 
Pool B: Benin, Kenya, Madagascar, Morocco, Mali 

In the women's, defending champs Egypt will be the team to beat in Pool A while last year's silver medallist Madagascar headline Pool B.

Africa Cup Women's

Pool A: Egypt, Uganda, Algeria, Mali, Senegal
Pool B: Kenya, Benin, Madagascar, Morocco, Nigeria 

In the U17 Africa Cup, there will be a blockbuster Pool A men's battle between defending champs Egypt and reigning bronze medallists Morocco, while Pool B is headlined by Benin. 

U17 Africa Cup Men's

Pool A: Egypt, Morocco, Mali
Pool B: Benin, Algeria, Uganda

In the women's, Egypt's title defence starts in Pool A, while last year's bronze medallist Morocco are in Pool B.

U17 Africa Cup Women's

Pool A: Egypt, Algeria, Mali
Pool B: Benin, Morocco, Uganda
